Which drug combo is best for breaks and sprains

Emergency medicine specialists compare the most common options

Emergency medicine specialists have found that a one-two combo of ibuprofen with paracetamol works just as well as a one-two combo of any of three different opioids with paracetamol in reducing pain from a sprain, strain or fracture in the arms or legs.

In their randomised controlled trial, patients were randomly assigned to receive 400mg ibuprofen and 1000mg paracetamol; 5mg oxycodone and 325mg paracetamol;  5mg hydrocodone and 300mg paracetamol; or 30mg codeine and 300mg paracetamol.
