Who is the average Australian GP?

The average Australian GP is male, middle-aged and works 39 hours per week, according to the latest snapshot of the profession.

About 2% of GPs are 30 or younger while 40% are 55 or older, figures from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare reveal (see infograph below).

The figures also show that in 2014, about four in 10 GPs were trained overseas and less than 1% were Indigenous.
