Who works longer hours, GPs or other specialists?

On average, GPs are slightly older than other specialists, work fewer hours, and have a more even gender split.

The average age of Australia's 27,000 GPs is 51 years, compared with 50 years for the nation's other 28,000 specialists (see infograph below).

About 41% of GPs are female, compared to 29% of other specialists, and GPs work an average of five fewer hours per week.
