Wholesaler set to squeeze pharmacy discounts

Pharmacy wholesaler, API, is aiming to counteract the impact of PBS reforms by reducing the discounts it offers to store owners, as the sector braces itself for a $575 million revenue loss in 2014.

Stephen Roche, API’s managing director, warned that the company aimed to use a “combination of operational improvements and reduced discounts” to tackle the impact of PBS reforms on the pharmacy wholesale sector, but he said the company would “take a position of leadership and help customers manage discount reductions”.
