Why bowing to coronavirus panic can land pharmacists in trouble
Pharmacists could land in legal strife if they allow patients to stock up on prescription medicines amid panic over COVID-19.
It is inadvisable to dispense multiple repeats without good reason, as this is outside of Pharmacy Board of Australia guidelines, says Pharmacy Guild national president George Tambassis.
In some states, it’s illegal to dispense multiple repeats without checking with the patient’s doctor.
Another concern is that stockpiling could cause medicine shortages.
