Why female doctors are 'allergic' to gloves – and it’s not the latex

Glove-related hand urticaria is becoming an increasing occupational hazard for doctors and the problem is not due to latex contact allergy, dermatologists say.

The physical pressure and shearing forces on the skin from recurrent donning and removing of gloves in daily practice may cause symptomatic dermographism that manifests as glove-related urticaria, according to specialists at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, Scotland.
