Why head lice may not be so innocuous after all

Researchers report the case of a young, well-nourished patient with severe iron deficiency who appears to have developed the condition from chronic and heavy lice infestation.

Although no definite relationship has been proved between head lice infestation and iron deficiency, the case is one of several report that show iron deficiency in patients with heavy infestation in the absence of other causes.
