High-protein diets may be ultra-trendy these days, but evidence suggests middle-aged men may do well to avoid them.

A 22-year study involving almost 2500 men aged 42-60 has found a link between high-protein diets and an increased risk for heart failure.

The researchers divided the men into four groups based on their daily protein consumption.

When they compared the men who ate the most protein with those who ate the least, they found that their risk of heart failure was:
