Why not prescribe generics?

Australian doctors’ reluctance to prescribe generic medication may be a major factor in keeping costs too high, a study shows.

The research found that generics were on average seven times more expensive in Australia than in the UK.

Lead author, Dr Sarah Mansfield said this disparity can be attributed to local supply and demand issues including aspects of current pricing policy - despite recent attempts at reform - and a reluctance by GPs to prescribe generics
