Why older men should avoid ladders

Public health experts call for more targeted fall prevention messages

Older men should avoid ladders while women may want to be more careful in the shower, according to researchers who looked at more than 330,000 fall-related hospitalisations in over-65s in NSW.

The study found that men continue to take risks as they age, with those aged 65-74 accounting for the majority of trauma and hospital admissions following diving accidents or falls from ladders and scaffolding.

Women, on the other hand, tend to fall more often than men, mostly due to trips and slips during the course of the day, or falls in the bathroom
