Why overweight women may need more mammograms
Women who are carrying too much weight may need shorter intervals between mammography screening because they face an increased risk of their cancer not being detected until it’s too late, a new study suggests.
The Swedish authors argue that BMI should be considered as part of breast cancer screening guidelines.
In their study of 2,012 cases of invasive breast cancer with a 15-year follow-up, they found that for cancers detected at screening, both BMI and breast density were associated with having a large tumour at diagnosis.
However, for interval cancers, or
