Patients who undergo angioplasty for acute coronary syndrome have a higher risk of heart failure and stroke if they have sleep-disordered breathing, a study shows.
The findings mean that detecting sleep-disordered breathing, such as sleep apnoea, should be part of routine clinical care of acute coronary syndrome patients admitted to hospital for primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), wrote the Japanese researchers in the Journal of the American Heart Association.
