Why women change their contraception

The most common reasons for women changing contraceptives are unrelated to preventing pregnancy, a survey of more than 1000 young Australian women shows.

The University of Queensland researchers found that many women made choices on contraception for practical or social reasons.

Here are some of the responses:

  1. I moved to this pill because it helps my skin.
  2. I had to stop the pill for cost reasons.
  3. I switched to this pill for lighter periods
