Wounds debride faster with maggots

Maggots can debride wounds more quickly and more effectively than conventional therapy, research finds.

A French study of 105 hospital patients found maggot therapy had removed significantly more dead tissue after one week of treatment compared to conventional surgical debridement.

After eight days of using dressings enclosed with 80 sterile maggots, patients’ wounds had significantly less slough — comprising 55% of the wound area on average, compared with
