You won’t believe what people do with OTC meds
You won’t believe the trouble some patients have with directions for using OTC medicines.
According to one participant in research “take one tablet eight-hourly” means take one tablet each hour for eight hours.
Australian and UK researchers surveyed 50 people and found 42% couldn’t follow eight-hourly dosage recommendations for diclofenac (Voltaren).
The majority wanted shorter dosing intervals to avoid being in pain.
“I’d probably take it every four hours,” one participant said. “I don’t want to spend four hours in pain do I?”
