There are ways to enjoy tea without compromising well-being

Enjoying a regular cup of hot tea may seem like one of life’s more innocuous pleasures but the latest evidence suggests this may not be the case, at least for those who smoke or drink.


Combined with excess alcohol consumption, hot tea causes a five-fold increase in the risk of developing oesophageal cancer, a Chinese study of almost half a million people found.

And smokers who also drink hot tea double their risk, say the researchers.

But those who simply enjoy a hot cuppa without the drinks and the smokes can rest assured that one of life's simple pleasures appears to be safe
