'$250k medical degrees' shelved, for now
THE AMA has welcomed the federal government's decision to put its university deregulation legislation on the backburner but wants price increases off the table for good.
New Education Minister Simon Birmingham says any reforms, if they happen, will not be legislated until 2017 at the earliest. He has also indicated he is rethinking all aspects of a package to overhaul higher education that has so far been rejected twice in the Senate.
AMA president Brian Owler has welcomed the development, saying the cost of a medical degree could have risen to well over $250,000 under the
