Administrative GP consults top doctors' list of low-value items

THE administrative GP consult has emerged as doctors' prime candidate for reform as part of the government's review of the Medicare Benefits Scheme.

Doctors who have provided feedback to the government review have put administrative consults at the top of their list of "low-value" items that should be prioritised.

Nearly 350 health professionals have nominated low-value items, coming up with 457 in total. Administrative GP consults were mentioned 74 times, while allied health and diagnostic imaging also cropped up frequently:
