AMA nudges GP co-payment back on the table
TWO years after it was notoriously dropped, the GP co-payment has worked its way back into the political discussion - and via an unlikely source.
New AMA chief Michael Gannon revisited the idea on Friday morning as a possible means to reverse the Medicare rebate freeze.
He told the ABC: "We need to be open to all different conversations, and that should be part of the conversation in unravelling the freeze".
It's a significant departure from the position taken by his predecessor, Professor Brian Owler, who emphatically objected to the idea
