Anaesthesia pre-school linked to exam failures later in life

Children exposed to general anaesthesia before the age of four are more likely to fail school tests when they are about eight, a large Australian study shows.

A retrospective study covering more than 210,000 children in NSW shows that general anaesthesia at an early age is associated with a higher risk of low achievement in Grade 3 tests and of poor social and cognitive development.
