Anti-vaccination group regains charity status
The decision to allow the AVN to resume fundraising was described by anti-AVN campaigners as a failure of the NSW government in its responsibility to protect public health.
The AVN’s charity licence was revoked by the NSW Office of Liquor Gaming and Racing (OLGR) following a public warning about the group issued by the NSW Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC) in 2010.
The Supreme Court earlier this year ruled that the HCCC was acting outside of its jurisdiction, and last week the OLGR issued a new licence, saying earlier breaches of charity legislation had been rectified.
