Battling to build up practice

With the prospect of a federal budget just two months away and an election now locked in for 14 September, RACGP president Dr Liz Marles sees 2013 as a crucial year for both major parties to rethink the way mental health services in the primary care sector are administered.

When the Labor government announced significant cuts to the Better Access to Mental Health program budget in 2011, it promised the savings would be driven into other mental health services. The key beneficiary was to be the Access to Allied Psychological Services (ATAPS)
