AFTER hours care in Australia is suffering, according to a University of NSW study which shows that while Australia competes well on same and next day patient care, only 50% of GPs provide after hours services.
We also lag a fair way behind other OECD countries.
The study also confirmed that GPs who received incentive payments were more likely to offer after hours arrangements. Researchers found a correlation between GPs who offered after hours services and incentive payments, now to be administered by Medicare Locals.
