The Rural Doctors Association of Australia has put forward a proposal for GP registrars to be paid a salary rather than the current model of receiving a percentage of their billings.

However, General Practice Registrars Australia has complained that the plan is too prescriptive to allow for the nuances of varying practice settings across Australia.

But new RDAA president Dr Sheilagh Cronin argued the current system had potential to increase the registrars’ workload and wasn’t supportive of a teaching environment.
