Beware of NDIS scammers: Macklin
Last week, community services and disability reform minister Jenny Macklin issued a public warning to beware of contact from anyone claiming to work for the government who tried to charge them an administration fee to join the NDIS.
“These claims are false, there is no need for people to pay a fee to join the National Disability Insurance Scheme,” the warning said.
A spokesperson told MO the warning followed several reports of people charging the fees in ACT.
The NDIS is being tested in five locations from July under leadership of the NDIS Launch Transition Agency. The agency would not seek any fees from the public and anyone concerned their privacy had been breached or who had given personal details as a result of a request should report it to police, the warning said.
