Bigger role for GPs in AF management

Baseline results from the GARFIELD (Global Anticoagulant Registry in the Field) project revealed that of the 351 Australian patients enrolled, only 59% of patients with newly diagnosed AF with at least one risk factor for stroke were treated with warfarin.

Only 4% were treated with novel oral anticoagulants (NOAC), although this rose to 12% in a second cohort, for which full results have not yet been published.
