Billing fraud: Doctor felt pressure ‘to keep up with the Joneses’, tribunal told

A surgical assistant who received more than $27,000 for 146 operations he was not present at – in order, his psychiatrist said, to “keep up with the Joneses” in Sydney’s affluent eastern suburbs – has been found guilty of professional misconduct.

The NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal was told Dr Roger Leigh Flekser was earning annual income of $299,000 and had paid off his mortgage at the time of the complaints in 2013.
