Billion-dollar boost needed for medical research: review

The independent McKeon Strategic Review of Health and Medical Research wants 3–4% of the national health budget to be spent on medical research.

Between $1 billion and $1.5 billion – about 2% of health expenditure – is now directed to medical research each year, compared to the 3% invested by leading OECD countries, the review says.
