Cars, drugs and guns – Wahlberg in his element - Contraband (MA15+)

WELL here’s a nice twist. Contraband is a remake of an Icelandic film, Reykjavík-Rotterdam, which starred Baltasar Kormákur.

With this version he takes on the director’s chair. You assume he was pretty familiar with the material and he does a fine job with this tale of another ‘one last job’ heist-thriller.

Mark Wahlberg plays Chris Farraday, a former world-class smuggler who has since retired into suburbia to go straight for his wife, Kate (Beckinsale) and two young sons.

When his young brother-in-law Andy (Jones) dumps a load of cocaine off a ship as the customs officials are boarding, drug dealer (Ribisi) is not happy. He wants his $700,000 and not only is Andy’s life in the balance, Chris and his family are next in line. Reluctantly Chris, with the help of his best friend Sebastian (Foster), organises a run of counterfeit notes from Panama City to New Orleans.
