COAG review seeks Medicare funds for GP interns

A PROPOSED shake-up of medical training would create two-year internships with more focus on practical training, including a scheme to place interns in general practice.

The independent review, com­missioned­ by the Council of ­Australian Governments Health Coun­­cil, recommends a system for GP internships by which graduates could access Medicare benefits as a cost-effective alternative to the former Prevocational General Practice Placements Program (PGPPP).
