Coalition softening on MLs

With a federal election due this year, the Coalition still leads most polls. Opposition health spokesman Peter Dutton has previously pledged to stop the change from divisions to MLs.

But shadow parliamentary secretary for primary healthcare Dr Andrew Southcott told MO last week that while the promised link between hospitals and primary care via MLs was “patchy”, “in some areas it’s happening”.

“Hospital clinicians are realising they can’t do it all, they’re working in partnership with the GPs,” he said.
