Contenders line up for AMA presidential race
Current president and GP Dr Steve Hambleton is set to step down from the role in May after three years at the helm.
The first two candidates lining up to replace Dr Hambleton are incumbent AMA vice-president Professor Geoffrey Dobb and NSW AMA president Associate Professor Brian Owler.
Professor Dobb, who is director of critical care at Royal Perth Hospital, told MO his decision to run stemmed from his desire to see the corporate knowledge and leadership of the AMA continue, at what he said was an important time for the association.
“It is important in a membership organisation to have a mix of continuity and fresh ideas and approaches… but particularly when there is so much going on in health as we bed down a range of health reforms we need to have a very clear corporate memory as to what the issues are,” he said.
