Definition of therapeutic goods may change

Parliament is considering amendments to the Therapeutic Goods Act which Health Minister Peter Dutton says will reduce regulation and potential health risks.

In presenting the Therapeutic Goods Amendment (2013 Measures No.1) Bill 2013 to parliament yesterday, Mr Dutton said there had been a growing trend to make therapeutic claims to appeal to health-conscious consumers which has resulted in things such as jewellery, bedding or clothing coming under the TGA act.
