Dementia gets national priority status at last

The decision to prioritise dementia, made by the Australian Health Ministers’ Advisory Council  on Friday, comes as the RACGP and AGPN have called for further training and remuneration for GPs managing the disease.

In a submission to the ongoing parliamentary inquiry into early diagnosis and intervention, the AGPN has proposed a national education and training program for GPs and practice nurses as well as increased remuneration through the MBS for GP house visits and services provided in residential aged care facilities.
