Diabetes groups fight for insulin pump access

All patients with type 1 diabetes should have access to a choice of insulin pumps and there should be no discrimination based on factors such as age or glucose control, a PBS review has been told.

Diabetes groups and other stakeholders have rejected suggestions raised in a PBS post-market review that insulin pumps offer no clinical benefits over injections and there is little difference between different pumps.

The comments are made in a newly-released summary of stakeholder contributions at a September 2013 forum meeting.
