Diabetes PIP target hike ‘unreasonable’

Changes to the Practice Incentive Program (PIP), due to start in November, will raise the target from 20% to 50% of patients with diabetes to have completed a cycle of care.

RACGP president Dr Liz Marles said while some areas may already be meeting the 50% benchmark, the change would penalise marginalised patient groups such as Indigenous Australians, who were often the most in need of support.

The measure was made as part of the 2012—13 budget and is the first time the threshold has been increased since the introduction of the incentive payment
