The change requires a clinical psychologist to certify the patient’s diagnosis of mental illness, creating an extra burden for patients, an RACGP spokesperson said.

The change was quietly introduced on 1 January 2012, when the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) revised its impairment tables, which determine eligibility for a DSP.
