Dissenting authors urge 140 mmHg BP target for all

Controversial new US guidelines that relax BP targets for people over 60 have been denounced by a minority group of the guideline’s own authors.

The hypertension guidelines from the Eighth Joint National Committee (JNC 8) recommend easing the systolic BP target for people over the age of 60 from 140 mmHg to 150 mmHg. The committee based its new recommendation on what it said was a lack of evidence from randomised trials for any benefit of a systolic BP goal of lower than
