Financial interest disclosure urged: coroner

Deputy South Australian Coroner Elizabeth Sheppard made the call after looking into the case of Patricia Walton, 66, who died following a hip replacement at a small private hospital in Adelaide that did not have doctors on duty overnight and lacked intensive care facilities. Mrs Walton was admitted to the Sportsmed facility for the operation in October 2010 and died after a cardiac arrest six days later.

Her surgeon, Dr Adrian Bauze, gave evidence that during his final preoperative consult he had outlined to Mrs Walton the potential risks of surgery,
