Four steps to preventing foot ulcers

Most recurrent plantar foot ulcers in patients with diabetic neuropathy can be prevented with a few simple measures targeting minor lesions and pressure-relieving footwear, a Dutch study has shown.

The presence of a minor lesion is the strongest predictor of a recurrent plantar foot ulcer, suggesting that many ulcers can be prevented by early detection and treatment of blisters, cuts and calluses, a study of 171 patients with diabetes found.
