Free breast screens for women aged 70–74

Currently, free screening mammogram reminder letters are sent to women aged 50–69, but as part of a $55.7 million Australian government initiative to boost breast screening rates in at-risk age groups, BreastScreen Australia’s target age range has been extended by five years to include women aged 70—74.

The expanded program will mean that more than 220,000 additional screening services will be delivered over that period and an estimated 600 additional cancers could be detected each year.
