Free taxi a hit with rural patients

Fare Assist was launched in March by the Far West NSW Medicare Local (FWML) and transported 300 patients in its first four months of operation.

It provides transport to residents living within a 30km radius of Broken Hill who wish to access after-hours services.

FWML Director of Workforce Planning and Policy Dr Lisa McFayden (PhD) told MO that many locals were unable to get to a doctor if they became ill after-hours because the local bus service only operated
