Govt denies cover-up of asylum children neglect
Psychiatrist Dr Peter Young, former medical director of International Health and Medical Services, last week told a Human Rights Commission inquiry that the immigration department had attempted to withdraw "alarming" statistics from official reports.
But Mr Morrison on Sunday said he had spoken to the secretary for the department, who disputed the allegations.
"I mean, in these meetings there is always two sets of versions of what has occurred," he told ABC Television.
"What they're working through is a process to get the best possible reporting of mental health in these facilities."
He warned against making "a whole bunch of conclusions" until the department had the opportunity to respond to the evidence.
"I've spoken to the secretary about that and he's written back to the commissioner and outlined what is actually occurring," he said.
