Govt pledges $1.3m to investigate point-of-care HIV testing

The previously unannounced funding measure – understood to have been included but not listed in the May budget – is part of a larger $25.4 million pledge by the government to tackle sexually transmissible infections and blood-borne diseases.

In a statement released this morning, Health Minister Tanya Plibersek indicated the point-of-care test, registered in Australia in 2012, could potentially be used to help reduce rising infection rates.
