Govt proposes GP payment reforms

CAPITATED payments via Primary Health Networks (PHNs), the salarying of GPs and pay-for-performance are among contentious reforms put forward in a new primary healthcare discussion paper released today by the federal health department.

Eight possible payment options are outlined, including capitation models which could be effected through payments to individual doctors, care teams or via general practices and even PHNs.

Another suggested option is for salaried healthcare professionals “to provide defined services” for team-based care for a group of patients.&nbsp
