GPs to have say on script rights
While the Health Professionals Prescribing Pathway (HPPP) project is in its preliminary stages, the organisation has put a final call out for medical bodies and practitioners to give their input on a nationally consistent approach to prescribing by people including paramedics, nurses, chiropractors, pharmacists, physiotherapists and various other health personnel.
HWA CEO Mark Cormack told MO GPs have been very active participants in the project.
“We specifically are inviting input from GPs into the HPPP. GPs are the largest group of prescribers,” he said.
The pathway is a set of five steps that any health professional, who is able to, trained to and has necessary support to begin prescribing, beginning with completion of education and training and ongoing skills development, recognition by their national board and that prescribing is done safely, abiding by safety and quality requirements.
