This GP's hospital stay illuminates why community medicine is different

Out in the community, a patient is a person. That changes the game.

I had an important insight a few years ago during an admission to hospital.

This was not a planned, single-roomed, private hospital, #betterthanahotel type of admission, like I had when delivering my babies. It was more basic than that. 

The insight came at about 6.30am when I awoke with a significant number of freshly washed, pre-caffeinated and besuited (or be-scrubbed) doctors peering down at me.
