GPs should act as a ‘filter’ for Dr Google

A recent survey of 1400 people, commissioned by Eastern Melbourne Medicare Local (EMML) and conducted by market research firm Crosby Textor, found GPs were the most trusted source of health information ahead of pharmacists.

However, more than one in 10 respondents (11%) also listed Facebook or other social media websites as a trusted health resource, while 56% said they had either some or a great deal of trust in “Google or other internet searches”.

The report follows a recent letter of complaint to the NSW HCCC by a paediatrician
