Hookworm larvae effective against coeliac disease

Coeliac disease patients can overcome their gluten intolerance by being deliberately infected with hookworm, Queensland researchers have shown.

In a potential breakthrough against the autoimmune disease, gastroenterologists at the Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane have demonstrated that hookworm infection can reduce gluten-induced gut pathology when used in combination with incremental increases in gluten exposure.
