Hypo admissions exceed those for hyperglycaemia

The push for aggressive control of HbA1c means diabetes patients are now more at risk of being hospitalised for hypoglycaemia than for hyperglycaemia, US figures show.

A study of hospitalisation rates for more than 33 million Medicare patients between 1999 and 2011 found that rates of hospitalisation for hypoglycaemia have overtaken those for hyperglycaemia in the last decade.
